I'm not comfortable with the conclusion that "newcomers, having done everything, are loaded with multiple types of bacteria." (poor newcomers!)
We're all loaded with multiple bacteria. 80% of human waste is bacteria. (ideally, the "friendly" kind)
A bacterial infection, secondary to a fungal infection is a problem, but they're 2 different beasties.
The really good advise IMHO is "the bottom line is see the Dr. for each and every type of irritation if it is more than an annoyance". They can't always help, but better safe than sorry. You can still treat problem however you choose, but it's good idea to "rule out" really scary stuff.
