Under "Contact Us" (at the link above) are a few choices. If you are concerned about the police activity in your area, please ask them directly.
Additionally, each district has "Community Police Officers" dedicated to our concerns. Call the local substation in Puna or Keaau, and talk to the "Rank", if need be.
Recently, there have been more calls to abandoned/vacant homes, and drug activity in the entire Puna area. Since the lava flow, those who have vacated the area (including yours) are experiencing problems.
If the police want to sit in your driveway, I'd give them a hot cup of coffee, soda, water, and thank them for their service. Got a question, call or ask, directly. Simple.
Not to mention, thank God dogs bark.
Rest assured, they are there to serve the public. Without "tools", like people reporting suspicious behavior/vehicles/etc., it will inhibit public safety.
