Senators want state to explore interisland ferry

The Alaska Marine Hwy. has ferry routes that cross the Gulf of Alaska and head to ports part of the way out the Aleutian Chain. The seas in these areas are not trivial so I would think the channel between Maui and Hawaii would not be insurmountable. That said, the Marine Hwy. does not pay its own way and has been heavily subsidized by the State for years.
