quote:It also doesn't help when the bottom 60% of workers pay less than 2% of all Income Tax Paid, and on a total income earned far higher than that. The way things are now 40% pay $0 in Income Tax, and 80% of those not only pay $0 in Income Tax, but get paid a "negative" tax by other taxpayers in the form of Tax Credits that exceed the normal Tax on their Income. The top 10% of earners pay virtually everything that is collected, so, yes, it would help if more people paid into the treasury, instead of relying only on the top earners to carry them, and the country/state, on their backs.

Welfare becomes less of a burden when more people are working and paying tax, and hence less people need to receive welfare.
To achieve this we need economic growth. To get that we need investment. For example, having someone build a $1,000,000,000 telescope
in your county.
But then we get people who protest against that for reasons that remain unclear. They then complain that there are no jobs for their kids and too many people on welfare.
