Why does HAAS need its own private traffic light?

Charter schools get less per pupil funding than DOE schools, and have to pay for facilities out of that funding, which DOE schools do not. They are not exactly wallowing in extra money.

Usually charter schools have widely dispersed student populations because they are a school of choice, so they can afford to have busses only pick up a percentage of their students. I know HAAS had been paying to have their students on the Pahoa school busses, but that service got cancelled right before school started sometime in the last few years. I do not know how that was resolved.

That intersection is a hazard for anyone using post office road to leave Pahoa, it either needs a light or to be made one way going into Pahoa. And yes, many intersections on that highway need a light.
