i have seen catchment tanks that have their own shed roof over them that catches the water where the house has non metal roofing. seems cheaper than re-roofing the whole house. i have one of peters cement tanks and it is really nice not wondering what might have gone swimming in there. on a side note, my catchment had to be part of my house plans, and somehow it got by me and they had a metal tank on the drawings. i had to get a demolition permit for the tank that did not exist then a new permit for peters tank with all the architect drawings etc. held us up a bit but so worth it. i have a small fiberglass tank right next to it (2800 gallons) that gets the overflow from the cement tank and they said i didn't need a permit for that. the 10K gallons is just for insurance so peter built my tank at 8000 gallons and it fits the bill...
