Chunkster and Kalakoa, you can't think much of our governor using words like "dumb" and "weasel". I was taught if you can't respect the person, respect the position they hold. You don’t spend as much time in politics as Ige has being dumb.

It is interesting that you mentioned his name that is where it all started for Hawai'i in terms of finding alternative energy sources.
1974 the Legislature passed Act 235 and that established the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute.(HNEI). It was a structure within the state government to oversee Hawai'i's attempt to wean itself from imported oil. It was Governor Ariyoshi who signed it on June 14, 1974.
"Then Ige should have no trouble enshrining "alternative energy" rights into the State Constitution before the merger is approved, so we don't end up with NextEra lobbying for laws that say "only a grid-powered home is habitable" like they have in their home state of Florida."
I been working on this and Chapter 196D particularly 196-10, 196,42, 235,12.5,269 269-91 relate to renewable. Start there. Since Hawai'i is outside of FERC regulation let's work on mirroring them starting with their FERC final rule792 which provides qualifying generation sources and storage facilities as an easier “fast track” to grid interconnections, avoiding the need for costly and time-consuming engineering studies! Making it easier for small generators to connect to the power grid, and including electricity storage.
Can't anyone get excited about a hydrogen fueled electricity? This is the new economy. This is why Ormat is here that is why NextEra Energy is here. Just think of the Jones Act. We could be shipping the gas not them. Our government could be selling raw materials. The things we learn could benefit our people. These technologies will create jobs and opportunities that will lead to careers in a blossoming industry for the future generation of Hawai'i's Keiki.
So if we do what we need to do now we can truly leave a legacy that says we cared, we exercised our legal rights while the time was right and gained and we won and now the merger is no more and those who want to use what they know and truly make our utilities the people's business come on let's do this.
