TomK...this post of Obie's wasn't "helpful" by any means. It was condescending and jabbing at HPP members who post on this thread and are concerned w/the few board members who are "trying to destroy our community". Shockwave rider was just calling Obie out which he/she has a right to after Obie made these kinds of comments on an HPP Biz thread.
Tonight the board had discussions about overturning membership votes on 2 items from the last membership mtg. Namely removing the 2 members whom the membership voted onto the Finance Committee. One claimed the 2 were "hostile witnesses to the lawsuit". Another claimed that bc the vote didn't happen in June, more members couldn't be added. This is a membership committee and the membership voted for it.
The discussion intensified when one rep stood up for the membership. He remained professional and stood his ground. He asked why the board didn't speak up at the membership mtg before the membership vote took place. Their reply was that it was a membership mtg. He was adamant that the board couldn't overturn what the membership voted. The board decided to consult w/an attorney to see whether they can legally do this.
Then the VP tried to overturn the membership vote on chip seal to do a test road. The VP obviously didn't care what the membership carefully deliberated over and then voted. She stated that the board has final say. The VP and the former Pres showed their petitions to the board that they had in the office. As I said, this opens the door to members using the office as a venue for petitions too then. Someone from the gallery asked where these people were during the membership mtg. (Petition signatures can't overturn the acts of the membership)
The same board member stood up for the membership again stating he didn't think it was right that the board could go against the membership this way. So the discussion ended w/adding this to the attorney's consultation list as well to see if the board can legally overturn the acts of the membership.
What's the point in the membership having any meetings then? What's the point in the membership voting on anything if the board can overturn whatever they wish? One rep's attitude was flippant stating there was only such and such number of votes at the membership mtg.
The 9th board seat was filled by Randi Larzalere who was on the board previously and resigned back in April.
The board assigned a board rep and the GM to discuss installing more mail boxes in HPP w/the postmaster. He said if we give them one acre that they would provide the mailboxes. I believe all our parcels are designated for parks and schools only?? But this aspect didn't even come up in the board's discussion.
Another questionable action is when did the board approve attorney consultation for HRC's most recent project...changing the employee handbook? There was no board mtg last month. Straw vote? Exec session? This is not a legal matter and should've been voted on at a board mtg.
