This is really something. If you don't check one box or the other, or don't send it in, the home exemption on the property tax will be dropped. Didn't really read it closely until recently but the cover letter said this is due to a new county ordinance. What it does is take the ambiguity of primary residence out of contention. The property tax exemption on the primary residence now depends on the resident filing a state income tax, or not enough state income to file. The address on the state income tax and the primary residence claimed will need to be the same. That is really going to tighten the rope in south Puna. Very interesting how the county finessed this one. It does mean more money in our ohana treasury.
