Senators want state to explore interisland ferry

The Superferry was a high speed catamaran that was built by Austral, an Australian company. While the reason is argued, the Hawaii Superferry went bankrupt with two ferries built. Eventually, the US Navy stepped in and saved a lot of investors butts by buying the ferries. They turned them into experimental high speed troop transports. The trials were viewed as successful and 12 were ordered from Austral. Now, the US Navy is finding the aluminum catamaran hulls don't hold up to extended ocean operations. The overhaul bills they are looking at, could have been Hawaii's if Superferry hadn't gone bankrupt. The Epilogue.
