Not so sure why you feel sad for people who choose to live at the edge of the National Park, where Kalapana once was a thriving tourist community as well as an incredible natural treasure site and home to many native Hawaiians. Surely they who recently acquired property there were fully knowledgeable of the potential advance of the lava flow and the tourism it brings. Do you think they were unaware that this could happen, living in some kind of vog of the mind? It's happened before it'll happen again. It is a boon for many including native Hawaiians who can set up temporary shops, and for those many who are entrepreneurial members of the community who count on tourism for their livelihood.
