I can more easily accept someone paying his own way to run for office than selling his vote to the highest bidder. Greggor chose to jump into this race against an incumbent, he has chosen to beat the bushes on Oahu to get campaign donations, and now his surrogates are trying to make Ruderman putting his own money where his mouth is out to be some nefarious scheme.
Even for someone with far more life experience than Greggor the jump from county councilor to state senator is a far leap, for someone who has really only had one job, as Hawaii county councilor, and hasn't been earth shaking at that, it is a huge leap. Ruderman has over 200 employees, he has run a successful business and continues to do so while serving as state senator, he has raised a 3 daughters and is raising another. He knows what it is like to pay bills, save for his kid's educations, and keep a roof over his family's head.
If Greggor had done something with his life outside of politics, if he had a family to support, or a mortgage to pay, I would have more respect for his life experience and ambition, but I just don't see him having done enough in his life to deserve this promotion. The kid needs to grow up and get some life experience first, so he can relate to what all of us working, bill paying, citizens go through on a daily basis, then he can come back and ask to serve his community in such an important position, until then all he has is shaka and sign waving skills, naked ambition, a few friends in high places, and no understanding of what being an adult is really about. In fact, Greggor seems to devote so little time to his job as county councilor that he can make sign waving an almost full time job for months. That tells me a lot about his priorities.
