Ah glorybush = tibouchina urvilleana.

As bananahead mentioned, all these invasive plant types are in the same family. Myconia, kosters-curse and tibouchina. I haven't found any uses for that plant either. I do notice an annoying itch whenever I'm working with it. When I say "working" it's usually me chopping them up with my chainsaw and pulling them into a compost pile. I also heard the wood is toxic to breath when burned. Not sure of that though.
