For some interesting folk practices, Google; 'Rudolf Steiner' (Waldorf School founder), 'Biodynamics' or 'peppering'. Steiner believes moon cycles play into the vulnerabilities of whichever type of pest one is trying to eradicate with ash (mixed with sand) and that ash is a last resort defense against blight. There are some things that seem a little hoky, even to me....but it's already a practice even if it lacks much of a technical breakdown. Hello Malamalama!
I read elsewhere that certain Californian Native populations did controlled burns in the fall when pests were at their most vulnerable.
