Hawaii has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. Hawaii county is nearly a full percentage point below the national average.

I'm not saying they are great paying jobs but there is work for anybody who wants it.

That doesn't change the fact that the gas tax increase will fall hardest on the working poor. As leilanidude notes, those stats don't include people not looking for work or in the fringe cash economy. I'd love to see some accurate statistics for employment in Puna, but I know they don't track it that way. We are lucky to get a breakdown by county.
