So since posting this, every time I went into the Hilo Home Depot I've been trying to get this chainsaw (the one they supposedly stock with the battery/charger bundle).
They've never had it, even though the online information states that they definitely do. My experiences have been beyond frustrating- ranging from the first weak gazelle I found near the paint section who told me that if it wasn't on the shelf, they didn't have any. I showed him on my phone where their app was reporting that they definitely had them, he wouldn't hazard a guess on the discrepancy until I nearly physically herded him to the empty slot ("yup, like I said, we don't have any"), other visits produced only ambivalence, etc. On my last visit I found somebody who seemed reasonably helpful until he said "the stock numbers on the web site are always off" but I gently pressured him to find somebody who could find out if they actually had any (I've been trying to buy this item for 5 weeks) and he agreed there were several units in the store. But nobody knew where they were.
The frustrating part of this experience is that each time they always told me one of these things:
"Come back in a couple of days."
"Come back in a week."
"Come back tomorrow."
If, at any time, they just told me the truth, "We're not going to help you. We don't have them." I would have dropped it. It was the LIES that made me press on.
So today I went online and bought/paid for the chainsaw and selected the "pickup in store within 2 hours" option.
And waited. Wringing my hands and petting my bald cat as I sat in an overstuffed leather chair. I waited.
About an hour later they called me and explained they didn't have the item, maybe they did, but if they do have it, they don't know where it is... but they could sell me this other similar item (that I didn't want). No thanks.
They offered to cancel and refund my order but I whined enough that they reluctantly agreed to transfer one in from the Kona store and call me when it got to Hilo- at least a week from now.
Tune in next week for another exciting episode!
