While lower homicide rates may be correlated with increased gun control that doesn't indicate causation.
I think other factors are at play. You can have and act on violent thoughts with or without access to a gun. People are dangerous, not guns. How many people die from alcohol related deaths each year vs gun related deaths? Why is there not more alcohol control? It doesn't work? Gun control? Also doesn't work? Honest people are honest and criminals who don't follow laws will find guns with stricter laws or not.
