Rainyjim, a typical house uses a 12 gpm, 41W rated at 30 mj/cm^2 or (0.03 ws/cm^2 or 30,000 uws/cm^2). Take 30,000 uws/cm^2 to match up with the tables and you'll see there's lots of things that don't reach 99% rates or even come close, especially the exposure time required for nametodes. What I'm trying to point out is that in terms of nametodes, of which rat lung worms are, they would fail to do anything to them unless for some reason they are especially vulnerable. In the test report I linked 24,000 uws / cm^2 took 9-12 minutes of exposure which no household equipment can do because that flow rate would be about 0.05 gpm (rough estimate) and it would be way too slow based on the common volume of household UV filters.
bananahead, I know you're worried about leptospirosis. But we can do more than one research project at a time. The issue with RLW is no one knows how many people are infected, we only know about the severe cases which get sent to Oahu and have a spinal tap preformed. people have died and many people have had life crippling problems from RLW. There is no good preventative procedures, diagnosis methods or treatment methods, unlike for leptospirosis. Simple penicillin treats it typically and there are rarely deaths or any long term issues from it.
