Recently, right here on the Big Island, a man was sent home with no bail posted TWICE for DUI in the same 24 hour period. In another case a man was sent home with no bail after fatally hitting a pedestrian while DUI. This was done by the police, but I have noticed a remarkably lenient attitude from judges on DUI cases as well. Will someone who has lived here longer than me please explain why this it tolerated? Are judges elected or appointed in Hawaii?

Aloha,
Jerry
