Well as a gay tourist I hope the area becomes nothing like other gay resort towns. I don't think it ever will. I think it does have a draw for gay people with a certain spiritual sensibility, but that is true regardless of orientation. I like that there are plenty of gays & lesbians there, but more important is that there are open minded, accepting people. Maybe there is something about the mana that has a special draw for gays & lesbians, but it is not for the kind of guys who live at the gym and go dancing until 8 am. For me, lower Puna is a semi-gay world which is an escape from the ridiculously gay world I live & work in San Francisco/Oakland.
