So happy to find this thread! I have always felt welcomed and loved in Puna, well, in Hawaii in general really, as a gay person and a woman. I love our live and let live attitude.
Puna has its issues but I really think it's getting better all the time :-)

I love going to the Natch (or the Maku'u market) and seeing all my girlfriends, gay and straight,(male and female :-)getting all my hugs, and feeling a part of an aware and mostly enlightened community.
