Southwest " . . . said Wednesday it intends to offer interisland service as well and will set prices lower than currently available." They did not, however, mention Hilo as an interisland destination. Their CEO did some interisland flying and noticed what he described as "high fares."
In my own experience, Southwest's mainland fares for distances similar to ITO-HNL are similar to the lowest fares Hawaiian offers. This should be interesting in that Hawaiian's previous interisland competitors (including Aloha) have been small or weak airlines. Southwest is the big time.
