marking other stuff on Waze would be handy
Requires alternate routes -- and cellphone coverage -- and risks a ticket for "use of phone while driving". Other than that, sure
Alternate routes are a problem admittedly. But not in the Hilo snarls. And even if there isn't one and it says "estimated 44 minute delay", I know to stop somewhere for a malasada.
Cell coverage seems much improved this year. At least on Verizon. I had voice coverage basically everywhere I went, and data most places. Tethering to my phone where I was staying was far faster than Hawaii Telecom DSL.
Waze is completely handsfree now. Just tell it what you want. It will navigate, make reports, or whatever else.
"Waze - report pigs in roadway" (either type) "OK, sending report"
"Waze, add a stop at Malama Market" "OK, rerouting, and sending your updated ETA to (spouse)"

(My) Rule 4: When taking a left turn at a Left Turn Yield on Green intersection, pull INTO the intersection and then turn after all oncoming traffic has passed. (allows more cars to turn left) Again, Nope.
That is actually the official procedure in the Driver's Handbook here for unprotected left turns at lights.
Pull into intersection, wait to turn safely. If the light turns red, wait for oncoming traffic to stop and then complete your turn safely.
What makes that especially odd is my current state of residence is one of the few where failure to EXIT the intersection before the light turns red is a moving violation. In most states you merely have to enter it before it changes. So the handbook tells you to break the law.
