"This is just the county dodging responsibility. If they said it was unsafe now would mean they did something wrong when they approved the subdivision."
-------------------------
They did do something wrong.
I honestly did not expect the govern. to actually come thru with the expense of land swapping fee simple lava zone 1 for build-able fee simple zone 3.
This was the main reason I found lava zone 1 swap for lava 3 long term leasehold as a possible solution in moving families out of lava zone 1.
For the county building dept.to continue and carry on, issuing building permits for new construction in lava zone 1 , is just mind blowing to me. It is irresponsible to place a new group of trusting families in the same situation that we currently have right now. And it is unfair to tax payers to suggest that we help subsidize new construction's insurance needs.
Building in lava zone 1 is a risky business that should be fully understood .
(Lava zone disclosure forms required of every real estate transaction)
If people choose to build in lava zone 1, then that should be entirely their risk.
If mortgage companies wish to grant mortgages, that would be their business decision.
But to have the State provide Insurance options , no. And what about the cost of county road re-builds? This is nuts.
Are we honestly looking at nothing changing with this tragedy, other than an increase to taxpayers?
