I don't see it either. Have been in both positions w/ vacation rentals. Out of State and locally run by me.
Our Oahu business unexpectedly took us to the mainland for a few years.....turning our private Kona condo into a short term rental was the most practical action we could take. Didn't want to sell,
wanted to come back throughout the years, check on things, have a place to stay. I'm with Frankie S.... lots of overhead, not too much profit. But no way did we want to rent it out long term. There was never a problem with our renters.
Also had a vacation rental on Whidbey Island. Never a problem with that one either. We found a darling house on the National Register, renovated it, filled it with antiques and enjoyed the people who came from all parts of the globe. We certainly were no problem to the community. If anything, we raised the property value of the surrounding area. Never would have wanted to put that house in a long term rental situation either.
I think the county is money hungry, just about willing to cut off it's nose to spite it's face with this action. Not to mention, the Timing sucks.
You all need to stick together & not succumb to the media trend of pivoting each group against each other....that only helps the County win with it's anti small business agenda.
