The TMT, OHA, and The General Election 11/6
#27
We are born by the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood. I'm just gonna come out and say it. The whole thing about how native Hawai'ians claim they have a right to the land based upon race, that is racist. That is racism. Their rights to their land does not stem from their race, it does not stem from being haole or not haole.

They do have a right legally, absolutely. People stole their land. Now, the problem is, the specific people protesting are probably not ali'i, and are assuming legal rights underneath a monarchical system they have no power in. In a monarchy, you need to be royalty to have a say in what gets constructed or not. I highly doubt the people blocking TMT are direct descendants of the royalty.

Also, I wonder how they would have handeled a bunch of natives blocking an important construction, back before Hawai'i was a state and it was still a monarchy. Somehow, I find it extremely difficult to believe they would be as gentle as we are today. I kinda have the feeling that back then, when Hawai'i was owned by Hawai'i, they would have just thrown every last one of those protestors in prison, immediately.
