If you do not want to do the new lava hike, as of Saturday, the road was not open to vehicles, so made a nice bike path... 2 + lane wide very well packed gravel (& paved in the kipukas)
& each time we go, the trail has gotten easier...
There is some heat, but not as much as the 4 corners hike & nothing that would stop anyone from the hike
There is very sharp lava off of the hike trail, but they have even made hike breaks from the trail over to the new road...so not horrendous if you wanna try the lava hike, but want a nice smooth surface to "fall back on"
