Man drowns at Kehena Beach

Very dangerous beach. A friend of mine disappeared at that beach 3-4 years ago, when he went in the water to help someone else in trouble. One of the owners of Aloha Fitness in Hilo off of Railroad Ave told me soon after he moved here, he went swimming there. Things got ugly, and he said he was a very strong swimmer. He was being dragged out and was convinved he was done for. He said suddenly the water changed a bit, and he saw a possible way out. This was his last change, as he was exhausted. He made it out, and said he just laid there on the beach for a long time glad to be alive. Sorry to hear another has drowned there. I've never been down to that beach, and don't think I will.
