You are paying the post-Katrina premium now in The Quarter. Rentals are tight and higher here in Red Stick, but not as bad as N.O.
The lower rentals and purchase prices in Puna compared to Hilo reflect the travel time and relative lack of "amenities" that some people find important. I grew up in the country, so I prefer Puna.
