Frank - As per your original thesis, I do not think this is a partisan issue. Rather, I suspect it is more one of the ever increasing cost of living, which consistently goes up at a rate of 2 to 5 percent per year when measured by the feds over time. The same, ever increasing, cost of living we all are, individuals and government alike, burdened with. I certainly can sympathize, but suspect your frustration is misplaced when you single out politics as a source of your concerns. That is unless you think the republicans have a magical way to keep that damn cost of living from increasing. Otherwise all I think would change if in fact the repubs were ever in the majority here is your bitch would be focused on them rather than the dems.
Of course there are other factors, an aging infrastructure, an expanding population, and a greater number of natural events (to name a few) are all increasing while that good ol' cost of living grows on and on. I am sure you can appreciate how much your dollar gets today compared to its buying power in days gone by... in those days when terracore was picking strawberries for a few bucks an hour. A few bucks that went a long way back in the day.
