The cost of shipping to Hawaii is not substantially different than anywhere else on the planet.
I believe that to be the case as well, though I assume we are still on the high end of whatever spread that is.
But the actual price we pay at the pump suggest the cost of transportation from the initial distribution point, which I assume to be the refinery on Oahu, is substantial. On hawaiigasprices.com the spread is from $2.50ish on West Oahu, to above $3.00-$3.25 in Hilo to $3.65 at Matsuyama's in Kona and $3.79 at the stations in Waimea. By that it appears that we are paying between $0.50 and $1.30 per gallon in extra transportation costs depending on how much transportation is involved.
