First of all, no lifeguards got fired. Some have moved on to other positions in the county or have been placed at other pools. Second, If you believe that there are an abundance of candidates who possess the credentials and certifications to be hired as a County of Hawaii lifeguard, then by all means point them toward the vacancy. These are union-supported positions that come with all benefits (and retirement) that county government jobs will offer. if you know of any potential candidates, also make sure that they are good people who know how to communicate effectively and know how to deal with the Puna region - quite possibly the most anti-authority, my needs is the only needs that matter -- kind of place. Hard to be a cop, lifeguard or any other type of rules enforcer in Puna. Some folks can really suck.
