aloha glen,
you might want to rent in several spots, a couple days in kapoho, in HPP, and so on. it'll give you a better idea of the neigborhoods, traffic, weather, driving distances, etc. kapoho has unbelievable snorkeling, maybe the best i've seen in the islands. the big island will be quite different than moloka'i, especially puna. unless you've spent time on the east side of moloka'i, which is more like puna. but as folks have stated here, the big island is BIG, so it won't be a quick drive across the island like moloka'i.
while on moloka'i, did you stop at the "beach boy ranch" on the west side, near mahana? my buddy kealoha (also known as "pee wee" and his wife janie run that little roadside farm. you can't miss it if you've been there. its an oasis out in the middle of nowhere. just curious...
puna is great, just be ready for the rain, bugs and frogs!
malama pono,
holahan
