I really hope TMT can proceed soon and those that have had to leave their jobs on Mauna Kea can return. I would guess it is a good strategic move that they left. All of the telescopes have sensitive environments that must be maintained. I am sure the governor of Hawaii and President Trump will be bombarded by not only NASA, Univ Hilo and Smithsonian but all the other County’s that have millions of dollars of equipment that are now at jeopardy. This move may expedite the process of opening the road. You can protest all you want, but sitting on a road is not a peaceful protest.
On the other side, I have been inside many of the facilities on Mauna Kea. Everyone that I have interacted with are humbled with the fact that they have the privilege to work in such a special place and make advancements in science not only for Hawaii, but for the world. The facilities are clean and I never saw any trash around the facilities. My heart goes out to those who work on Mauna Kea.
