recipes for breadfruit?
#3
Punamom is right.
The ulu is much like a potato.

{Considering the climate these days, I kinda hesitate to use the word french online...but yeah...they're delicious when you cook 'em up like fries!)

Since I'm so bloody lazy and tend not to cook with oil that much, I generally just slice 'em up (into pretty good-sized wedges), and toss 'em in the microwave 'til they're of the consistency I like.

Anyone with tons of ulu? Not a problem. If they're ridiculously ripe before you toss 'em in the wave, they'll come out really sweeeeet. Nice dessert.

Folks who are feeling ultra-creative, may wanna check out the Table of Contents for The Breadfruit Cookbook by Fae Hirayama. She'll keep ya busy and/or lickin' yer lips for a year!

And hang on...I just thought of something...if folks here on-island wanna save the $17.95, they can pick Hirayama's book up at the Public Library for free.

(I see by checking their online catalog that Hilo, Pahoa, and Mountain View each have copies sitting on their shelves at the moment...H 641.6439 Hi...right next to countless other Hawai'i cookbooks, each undoubtedly filled with scrumptious local recipes!)
