COVID-19 confirmed in Hawaii: 607+ cases 16 deaths
#10
What a lot of people don't know about cruise ships is that the crew are constantly moved around. It's not unusual for many of them to get off the ship mid-way through the cruise itinerary and flown to where another ship is and it could be on the other side of the globe. Also the crew are densely housed with several crewmembers bunking together. And they work different shifts so the bunks are constantly being used. They don't get their own bunk- after they start work somebody else is off duty and sleeping in the same bunk. They are housed below the water line and have little access to fresh air or sun. This generally represents 1/3 of the people on the boat. So in many ways it is much worse than an airplane and they have high exposure to international travel.
