Seriously, though. Would anyone be mad if I took a shovel and started digging out 1st bay. Best case scenario it would be like the waimea bay river, where a narrow trench would be enough to wash out tons of sand and sediment.
The best option would be to find a way to fill the remaining pool and boat ramp with excess water so it would overflow and wash out in the opposite direction.
Then natural erosion might eventually pull a lot of the excess sand down the coast.
Not certain if people would like that idea. Maybe better to let the sleeping dogs lie.
I have been wondering why the whole of the Puna district doesn’t organize a shoveling party for pohoiki bay boat ramp. Everybody brings their own shovel and we cooperate to dig an access to the ocean. (I understand that’s legal, btw.)
