Anything labeled " breathable" ( as a material ) including GoreTex is only as good as the outer surface.. Hence the big DWR finish.tout.  If water cannot bead off
i e.  if the outer surface is saturated, vapor cannot escape directly THROUGH it as they may show in " lab tests ". IMO the design and material weight are more important. Anyway, its all a balance.

Ponchos are awesome, from the amazingly versatile Military Longer length ones to more modern sleevy kine.

These are so easy here as well since we don't have a ton of breeze. And seriously, the 1.99  at Walmart " emergency " ones work BETTER than any short waist x $$$ brand that you will never use anyway in the forest to work ..lol. Buy 2 !! Wear a BB hat over or under the hood and all good

For the price, can keep multiple back ups if bushwalk or even hand out as aloha

Shoots, even a backpack fits under..

Lamenting they not cut 6-12 "  longer and cover knees on bike too for over 5'10" . 5'4" all good : )  No reason to spend more here. Seriously.

Forgot to say, all this is Big Island real world. Working / playing land, commuting rain or shine. May not be relevant for Mainland or up Volcano ( colder temp ) folks.

Big Jacket and pants rule ..LOL, my father ( Stockbroker ) used to say  " i want his job " whenever we passed a flag waver.. i did not get it ' till much later in life ..Oh yeah ..id be so good at that now .. Dedicated even. Love they rain gear.

Big and long . Calgule even. Anorak ( waxed or oiled kine commitment kine  : )

On pants ..IMO for working outside in rain and jungle ( think hand clearing ) Nylon rules. Gusset crotch  and prebent knee cut a luxury.

The nylon is tough and doesn't feel clammy even though its right against your skin when soaked. It dries as super fast and DOES NOT hold your stink like poly does for life.

Shorts are great but if you really going in and bushwhacking, stay with pants at least 'till you get a path going. And always select the longer inseam, can always roll them up for Shorts / knickers +++ tuck into socks when boots drying to keep mosquitoes off. The zip off ones, like keens and " tropical"  vented shirts are for tourists and youtube jockeys. Just rollem bra'

If cold ( wet may be risky )  or just really need to be dry legs, just look for cheepest vinyl / plastics with elastic waist ..wear how you want under.

These are good for cycling and doing errands / end up clean.. bc  they just block. Go slower if u no want sweaty ..Fancy goretex no better here anyway when exertion exceeds the fabrics ability to " breathe "  ..full circle it comes back to design.
