Thank you, Joe! For a decade or two, Harper's was the only company that provided 4WD vehicles and allowed them to be driven up Mauna Kea. Given the new restrictions, driven by the TMT debacle, the rangers are much more strict about what can be driven up to the summit. Whether you think it's good or bad doesn't matter; it's the current situation. I've lost count of the number of abandoned or crashed vehicles I've seen over the years that were either not designed to drive to the summit or were driven by people who didn't know how to handle a true 4WD vehicle.
