Harry Kim is venerated as an icon because of his efforts during the destruction of Kalapana and the fact that he has run an apparently honest administration. He is no great benefactor for Puna, though. When he appeared on the Honolulu Advertiser "Hot Seat" on-line forum earlier this year, he was directly asked about the lack of services and infrastructure by a frequent contributor to Hunter Bishop's blog. Kim's response was, "I don't want to patronize you with the usual excuses, BUT . . ." He then went on to recite the usual excuse about substandard subdivisions and even added that the County did not make as much in property taxes from Puna as it spends. What a guy!
