I drove through the Leilani and the Kalapana Seaside subs. They remind me of the Kona side or Kapoho, where fresh lava predominates the landscape.
I personally preferred the Fern Acres, Orchidland, and Nanawale areas, as they had more soil formed on the surface. Its not a thick layer (like the Hamakua coastline properties), but seemed a bit less desolate to me (I'm from Michigan, not California).
