Okay, well on the sign, I am thinking of something like this, except on a smaller scale and with a volcano above the word "Pahoa" : http://www.hillcrestinn.net/location.htm

What Pahoa needs is just ONE destination business (you can't have a town square -- it would just attract druggies.) A business like Cafe Pesto. Luquin's? No, I'm sorry. I am a champion "diver". I consciously seek out the diviest places I can find. But Luquin's is just too grubby for me (Love the margaritas though). Glad Luquin's is there and they are GREAT citizens, and it is worth the gut bomb just to suppor them, but we need something just a little more upscale. Our market is volcano tourists. Need to pull them away from Hilo.
Worry not Punatics that Puna would lose its "edge" if Pahoa were gentrified ever so slightly. As long as there are wild pigs, p-lolo farms, and wild west subdivisions, that just ain't gonna happen.
As for getting involved, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is 2100 miles away. Don't get discouraged though. I believe some energy is coming to Pahoa......
