I guess the insurance/bonding or any government requirements beyond just the permitting process.
I worked construction for about 5 years, about 20 years ago, here in California. I've got some skills in forming, framing, rough and finish carpentry, finish electrical, etc., but I know that there's many things that are beyond my skill level, or are just cheaper and better to sub out, like the plumbing, rough electrical, laying carpet, tile, or linoleum, etc.
I've got two years to go until retirement, but the plan is to move to the Puna area. No firm plans to build my own home, but I'm exploring alternatives.
How do I know?
