quote:
"Asking someone to use a different word is hardly CENSORING. It was a request. He can say, nah, I like it and am going to keep it that way. If you had read further down, I also explained this further by stating that I kind of enjoy the aloha and mahalo's we use here as this is my little Hawaii away from home.
So, although it seems as though you are picking out items to start arguments about?I love to be kind to others, and have recently left a message to the entire Punaweb community regarding how we treat each other even when we disagree. With aloha."
Julie, it is always inappropriate to ask a person to change the way they talk or write just to suit you and your personal needs. There are others on this forum, just as there are other people in the world. It is good to be aware of this, so you don't forget that the world is not there just to suit your own whims.
You might consider unburdening yourself of the sense that you need to control what other people say to make your experience here more Hawaiian. It's already Hawaiian. Hawaii is what it is because of its live-and-let-live ethos, not because of a few letters strung together that spell "aloha". Aloha means love, which means we don't just tolerate someone saying "cheers", we appreciate that person and the uniqueness they bring to our world and we also find a way to thank them for the fun they bring into our lives. Asking someone to mouth the words "aloha" or "mahalo" just to suit you is sort of the anti-aloha.
What if everybody in the world changed how they talked and only used Julie-approved salutations? Would that really be a happy place of aloha? Do you remember the story of King Midas, and how he wished everything he touched would turn to gold? How different is that from a world where Julie got her wish and no one could ever say anything but what Julie wanted?
People have been so patient and diplomatic in their attempt to express this to you. That should be all the proof you need that this board is the real Hawaii.
Mahalo, Mike

You definately disprooved your "live and let others live" line by this ridiculous rant.
You are acting like I have mentioned this to multiple people or something. This really is not a big deal at all, as I mentioned to the person in a follow up how unimportant and silly it was, and I even made fun of myself by saying that it doesn't make sense why I dislike it. If someone mentioned to me what I did to him, I would have laughed and said, ok, no problem. Why? It is just a word. The fact that you had to edit yourself "for more aloha" and this was what was produced-is quite frightening. I wonder what the previous posting was! Do not address me further please as I just want to be able to come onto a website, enjoy others postings and have others enjoy mine. If you don't enjoy mine-skip over my name in the future. Mahalo and aloha.
To anyone else I have offended: Please do not make this thread or any part of this wonderful site about this posting. I like this site and didn't mean to offend you. Mahalo.
