Rob, I was under the impression that Matson didn't offer forklift service to put the container on the ground so I didn't ask them for a quote.
But I could be completely wrong! Be sure to call them & ask.
I know that on the mainland they didn't offer the forklift or crane service to get the container *off* their chassis & onto the ground. It was cheaper to hire a company that could drive and forklift/crane it off, than to hire Matson + a forklift company. It was also a lot less of a scheduling nightmare to use one company versus two.
One interesting thing I learned is that the 'rules' with Matson yards can differ! For instance, I was told I could leave my container in Matson's Oakland yard for 3 days free of charge, but in Hilo it's 10 days free. In the Oakland yard, only truckers with a specific union certification can *drive into* the Matson yard (aka, drop off or pick up your container) ...but in Hilo, anyone with a truck can pick up or drop off. It was a treat to find out I had 10 days (especially since it was all rain except yesterday!) & I wasn't limited to a specific union to get my little bundle o'steel. I defintely like receiving the container at Hilo more than sending it at Oakland
Rob, I'm a cantankerous fountion of info on the container dance if you want to hear about any of my mistakes Just ping me via email.
