Melatonin works, but it shouldn't be used regularly, I read, because (IIRC) when you take the supplement the body stops producing natural melatonin.
I know the topic wasn't about how to sleep but a comment on the unnerving quiet, but since it went that way ...
Exposing yourself to bright light/sunshine signals the body to make melatonin, which is crucial for regulating sleep-wake cycles.
