How open and tolerant should Punaweb be?
#49
I think the labeling (the category that changes with number of posts) is good, as non-islanders start to learn Hawaiian painlessly. Those of us on the mainland can feel that we have a link to the place, even when the snow is falling (or mudslides, tornados, etc are happening).
There are more subjects and posts happening now than when I joined, so some threads I don't read (I have no kids, so schools aren't of interest) but that is also good, as everyone has a chance to relate to others, about subjects that matter to them. Builds community.
I was a bit annoyed with the "but I live here and I know" attitude that Petah held, but I was surprised to have him "disappeared". Now that that has happened, I am thankful that my anti-Puna library feelings were tolerated.
One caution, though - when the Volcano subject becomes active, I get alarmed, thinking that the lava flow is "on the move"! Please don't use that thread for comments about a walk in the park, or asking what the off-shore visitor can expect to see, or talking about lava zones - my heart can't take it!
