There is a very nice forum member whose name escapes me who built a very cute yellow house up the mountain aways. She linked to her blog where she helpfully posted business cards for all the contractors she worked with.
The other way to find contractors is to do a search on the type of contractor (e.g., "plumber" or "electrician") you will see plenty of suggestions.
I have found every good contractor I needed through this forum. The one stinker I had I found on my own.
