That's a really bad intersection. I have seen so many accidents and even more near misses over the years that I now completely avoid it. If I am leaving from Malama to go home to HPP I drive through the village and then turn left on 130 at the traffic light with the Pahoa-Kapoho road. It is worth the extra five minutes to have a safe leisurely left turn.
I have to say I don't understand the speed limits sometimes. The Keaau bypass section of 130, a four lane divided highway with wide shoulders through unbuilt land has a speed limit of 45, and then when you get past the humane society when it is down to 2 undivided lanes with with all these driveways and intersections it is 55. Weird.
