Hawaii: Message in the Waves (Plastic Waste)

If you live on the BI or just visit it you really must see the beaches north of the green sand beach above south point or easier terms, Kamilo Beach. Every time we go there I get the mixed emotions of extreme sadness and anger. Most people have no idea these beaches are here and they are the dirtiest I have even seen. PILES of plastic, broken glass bottles and fishing net everywhere. This is so bad and has been going on so long that large amounts of plastic has broken down and become part of the beach. The sand is MANY different colors do to all the tiny pieces of plastic. I have MANY pics of this area and even a sad photo of a monk seal resting on a garbage covered beach.
